**Amazon Web Services Forms New AI Agent Group**

Amazon Web Services has formed a new division focused on artificial intelligence agents, according to an internal memo The Information has viewed, in a bet that cloud computing clients will want to spend more on AI tools that automate tasks.
Establishing the new division shows that AWS is getting serious about building a business around AI agents, an emerging area of enterprise AI that helps companies automate tasks like customer service and financial forecasting. The unit includes the various teams that work on Amazon Q, the artificial intelligence chatbot and assistant that AWS unveiled at its re:Invent in 2023 and launched the following May, AWS CEO Matt Garman said in the memo.
Swami Sivasubramanian, VP of AI and data services and a 19-year Amazon veteran, will lead the new unit. He previously reported to Peter Desantis, SVP of utility computing services and will now report directly to Garman.
"Agentic AI has the potential to be the next multi-billion dollar business for AWS," Garman wrote in the memo, which was first reported by Reuters. AWS is Amazon's most profitable business and brought in $108 billion in revenue last year.
AWS did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
