Alibaba to Launch Open-Source AI Video Models
**Alibaba to Launch Open-Source AI Video Models**
By Juro Osawa
Chinese tech giant Alibaba Group said Wednesday it will release open-source versions of its artificial intelligence video models.
Alibaba's cloud computing division said it is open-sourcing four of its Wan2.1 AI models that generate videos while making them available for free. Alibaba's Wan video models are getting some positive feedback on social media site X, where users have posted videos created by the models.
Alibaba's move comes at a time when Chinese companies that develop AI models are beefing up their open-source offerings after the massive success of DeepSeek's open-source R1 model last month. Earlier this month, search giant Baidu said it will release an open-source version of its Ernie AI model. MiniMax, an AI startup backed by Alibaba and Tencent, released its first open-source AI models last month.
When it comes to open-source models, Alibaba already has a bigger presence than most other Chinese competitors. Alibaba launched the first open-source version of its Qwen large language models in August 2023.
