Google has asked officials at the Department of Justice to drop a push to break up the company, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.
President Biden's Department of Justice last year called for Google to be forced to sell its Chrome browser and possibly its Android mobile operating system, after a federal judge ruled in August that Google Search was an illegal monopoly. Before being elected, though, President Trump signaled that he wouldn't push to break up Google if he won. Google is citing national security concerns as it attempts to make its case to the Trump administration, according to Bloomberg.
In a statement, a Google spokesperson said that Google routinely meets with regulators including the Department of Justice to discuss the search case. "As we've publicly said, we're concerned the current proposals would harm the American economy and national security," the spokesperson said.
